During that time a Sunday School was organized starting with one pupil but began to grow until we had forty. A junior choir was also started and our Christmas Pageants were enjoyed by many people. Our missionary society was one of the highlights of my ministry in Woodstock, and I always found the members to be very helpful and to be interested in the church work.Attendance at some services had been as high as 100.
Pastor Cook urged work on a new constitution and the use of envelopes recommended by the Synod. The Synod Pension Board would require $47.84 per year ($336.32 per year in 2006 dollars) based on the pastor's present salary and considering arrears back to 1947. Pastor Cook offered to pay all of this, but the congregation voted unanimously to cover the amounts necessary to join the plan.
The congregation voted to join the pension fund of the United Lutheran Church in America (ULCA) and pay arrears back to 1947. They voted to maintain the annual benevolence to the Synod at $120 ($844 in 2006 dollars).
Victor Lasher reported that the council had recommended paying the heat, light, and telephone service for the parsonage up to $260 per year ($1,828 per year in 2006 dollars), and the congregation approved.
Mr. Shultis recommended making a new driveway on the west side of the church, and he offered a generous donation toward the cost. (This was studied but never done.)
By September, there was only $412.14 ($2,897.34 in 2006 dollars) in the Fellowship Hall building fund--an increase of all of 3 cents in nearly two years (actually, taking inflation into account, a decrease of $86.19 in 2006 dollars).
