Christ's Lutheran Church in 1957

Pastor G. Oliver Sands, from St. Mark's Church in Guilderland Center, NY, began his pastorate in January.

Average attendance at Sunday services was 69.

Deacon Charles Klothe and trustee Victor Lasher resigned in February; Lasher stayed for the rest of the year, but Klothe did not. No explanations are extant. As recorded in the church record book for February 3:

Mr. Lasher said he will rescind his resignation and serve until the annual meeting. Mr. Klothe said that in spite of many words of encouragement he is still unable to withdraw his resignation. A vote of thanks was given to Mr. Klothe for serving as acting president while we were without a pastor.

Organist Anna Eignor, who had been playing at services for the past 33 years, was given $50 ($346 in 2006 dollars) as a token of appreciation.

At Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA, a woman was an influential teacher of sociology.
