From Moseman, Magda, and Anderson, Mark, eds., Perspectives and Patterns: Christ's Lutheran Church, 1806-1976 [Woodstock, NY: self-published monograph, 1976]. (Close)
I remember my nearly eight years as Pastor of Christ's Church as a time of beginnings. It was my first parish. I was married during my ministry there.… It was a time of change. The LCA was born. A new parish education curriculum and Service Book and Hymnal was introduced. New members joined with existing members to maintain and advance our life and work.… It was a time when deep friendships were made.… I recall the many deep relationships with so many which remain among the richest treasures of my ministry at Christ's Church. Above all, I rejoice with you in Christ because he enabled us to come together, sharing joy and sorrow, as we sought to render service together, in His Name.…
Here are some later reminiscences(2): From Christ's Beacon, February 2006. (Close)
It was good to know the many fine people who were members… and this is the most significant recollection I have of my ministry there. I recall an emphasis on fundamentals, Baptism, worship. education, support of our life and work, catechetics, weddings and funerals.… Christ's Church was the first parish I served following seminary graduation.… I remember hearing a world traveler saying: "the Woodstock area is one of the most beautiful areas of the world." Upon gazing at Overlook Mountain…, I felt a sense of awe at its majesty and beauty. It was always a joy to look out of the parsonage window and see the mountain. In making pastoral calls, it was always an inspiration to view the natural beauty of Woodstock and the surrounding area as I traveled to and from the homes of those I visited. Many of the members I knew are now with the Lord. I remember them with thanksgiving and their contribution to the life and work of Christ's Church. I recall a colleague once saying: "that among the parishes I served in my ministry, there is something special about my very first parish and my service there." He was right. I still see and inexperienced Pastor moving into an area of inspiring natural beauty called to serve a parish and learning that yes, the Pastor molds the congregation but likewise the congregation molds the Pastor.…
Lutheran churches from our area were first invited to the metropolitan New York Synod Church School Association Convention.

The church council authorized the continued hiring of talented high-schoolers to fill in as organists. Donald Reinhard had usually been filling that position.

Kits to make cotta robes for the Cherub Choir were purchased, and each mother was to do the sewing for her own son or daughter.

The format of The Scroll was changed from a full page to a half-sheet booklet format. Here is an excerpt entitled "How Many Bulletins?" from the June/July issue(3):

While visiting a church one day, Pastor Krapf noticed a bulletin board full of church bulletins from various places all over the United States. Those on vacation collected the bulletins from the churches at which they worshipped while on vacation. The idea seemed to be a good one to try here. So when you travel this summer, and worship during your vacation or travels, bring back the church bulletin of the church you worship at. Let us see how many different places will be visited by members of the congregation this summer! The poster board in the rear of the church is for this purpose. It ought to be fun and a constructive reminder to worship every Sunday wherever you may be this summer.

And here is an excerpt from an article in the September The Scroll, about the "Rally Day" form, similar to today's "Time & Talents" checklist(4):

Sunday, September 10, will be Rally Day at our church. The purpose of Rally Day is to help each of us get back into "the swing of things" following the summer. What with vacations and varied schedules during the summer, it is helpful to have one day in which we consciously reaffirm our faith and reassure its privileges and responsibilities. Rally Day will begin with worship at 9:30 am. At this service, Pastor Krapf will deliver a sermon entitled "That Beautiful Year, 1967-1968." Tom Nau, Lay President, will also deliver a message during this service. The Church Councilmen will be introduced to the congregation and there will be a period during the service in which we will rededicate ourselves to our Lord and his service. A form to be placed in the offering plate at the service will be found in this issue of The Scroll, so please fill it out and bring it at that time. Parents of Sunday School children are also urged to attend this service with their children. The children will [meet] briefly with their new teachers and classmates.

Cabinets in the kitchen upstairs in the Fellowship Hall were put in.

A heat exchanger replaced the old oil burner in the church. From then on, the church would be heated by hot water piped in from the adjacent Fellowship Hall and subsequently distributed through the heat exchanger by means of hot air ducts.
