Christ's Lutheran Church in 1969

Pastor Steven Middernacht, conducting services.

The congregation decided to move the Paul Wesley Arndt (Lasher memorial) paintings (to make room for a new pipe organ). They were considering building an organ from a kit from the Marshall Stone Company.

The congregation considered a proposal to begin a Christian Day Nursery School in the fall of 1970.

The proposed budget for the year was $16,888 ($91,196 in 2006 dollars). The pastor's salary and benefits amounted to $8,038 ($43,405); organist $540 ($2,916) (a position usually filled by talented high schooler Donald Reinhard); the sexton $620 ($3,348).

According to the church record book for July 8(1):

Unless otherwise indicated in a footnote, excerpts from church records or from The Scroll are cited in Anderson, Mark J., For All the Saints: Christ's Lutheran Church, Woodstock, New York, 1806-2006 [Bloomington, IN: AuthorHouse, 2006], Chapter 9. (Close)
Mr. Victor Lasher reported to the church council that Helen Lasher, who died in 1928, had property on Rock City Road, which might be claimed by the church. Bob Ross was assigned to look into the matter.
In October, Ross reported that attorney James Meyers was checking; in November, he reported that the church had no claim, but that if we would be able to locate some of the other heirs, we might be able to get quit claims from them. Mr. Lasher would be asked if he knew any of these heirs.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bengston, Mr. and Mr. Thomas Nau, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Pickhardt (Barbara Pickhardt) became new members of the congregation. Barbara Pickhardt also joined the 3-year-old regional chorus called Ars Choralis. According to church historian Mark Anderson(2):

Quoted in ibid., p. 155. (Close)
Barbara Pickhardt had joined the congregation shortly after Doris Blatter. She had moved to Woodstock with her husband, Mel, an engineer who had taken a job with IBM.… She had graduated from the University of Minnesota, and while working for the church, she had earned a Master's degree in choral conducting from Westminster Choir College.
