Christ's Lutheran Church in 1985

Pastor Kenneth Jetto, conducting services. According to church historian Mark Anderson, Pastor Jetto is an excellent liturgist. As well as his fine voice, he has an intuitive as well as a schooled grasp of liturgy.

Karin Anderson Church was elected president of the church council, the first woman to serve in that office. Serving with her were Gil Barmwater, Pete Bengston, Bob Callahan, Erwin Holumzer, Pete Keller, Pete Koehn, Steve Loughlin, Carol Petterson (the other voting woman on the council), Cookie Kelbaugh (continuing as treasurer), and Nancy Pape (continuing as secretary). The new president later had these reminiscences:

It was the year when the Fellowship Hall had a new roof and that the fund for the handicapped ramp for the church continued to grow.… Pastor Jetto continued his work with other pastors regarding changes of synod boundaries.… I was recently reminded that I was the first female to serve in the position of Council President. If it was ever something I was aware of, that has long since dimmed in my memory.… whatever our names, whatever our gender, whatever the style, we all come together because we heard that last commandment: "Love one another even as I have loved you."(1) Quoted in Anderson, Mark J., For All the Saints: Christ's Lutheran Church, Woodstock, New York, 1806-2006 [Bloomington, IN: AuthorHouse, 2006], p. 144. As our church year draws to a close, let us respond with a prayer of thanksgiving for the guidance and strength bestowed upon us by our Lord. With prayers for guidance, the Church Council has sought to respond to our congregation's mission of providing the word, witnessing to and worshipping our Father in Heaven, through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The mission of this congregation begins anew witheach of us as we worship together on Sunday. As we continue our week with family and friends in various communities, we carry with us the word as we witness in our daily lives. It is with a great deal of humility that I have watched this process and have come to know so many with such strength, talent, dedication and love. I thank all of you for those gifts and talents that made this a special year at Christ's Lutheran Church.…

At a time when individuals are so pressed by societal constraints… we are fortunate to have… the church that welcomes our unique and individual talents and gifts. At the same time, there can exist the eternal solace that we are one in our faith. During the past year, the Church Council of Christ's Lutheran Church has strived to hear the unique needs and hopes of every individual in our congregation. With the Lord's guidance, we have sought to respond to each hope and need in accordance with our singular faith. You, the congregation, have put your trust in our hands and we have tried to serve you. We stumble and walk in darkness, always searching for His hand to guide us. That guidance emerges and will continue to reveal itself to each of us as we unite in listening to the word, witnessing to that word and worshipping our Lord.

Yours in Christ,
Karin Chuch
Church Council President
