Christ's Lutheran Church in 1991

Pastor Kenneth Jetto, conducting services. During Pastor Jetto's 3-month sabbatical leave to study shared daily prayer, Pastor Bruce Gamaché, from St. Paul's Church in West Camp, filled in. Sunday services were covered by supply pastors Michael Plekon, Audry Foley, and Paul Willey.

The proposed spending plan for the year was $91,237.00 ($130,469 in 2006 dollars)

A representative from Family of Woodstock approached the Christ's Lutheran council with a proposal for a soup kitchen. It was to take two years of planning and behind-the-scenes maneuvering, however, with many members of the congregation involved. They held open meetings for input, and they met with community leaders to ascertain where would be the best place for a soup kitchen to be sited. Here is a fitting excerpt on the topic of hunger from August issue of The Scroll, entitled "A Perspective on Hunger"(1):

Imagine that tomorrow's newspaper carries this headline: "300 Jumbo Jets crash -- No Survivors." Suppose each day this year you wake up to the same headline. Hard to imagine, isn't it? Yet each year, 40 million people die from hunger. That's equal to the loss of life from more than 300 giant aircraft crashing each day with no survivors.

During this time, there was a movement in seminaries and among some Lutheran theologians to recapture Lutheran links to both Roman Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Pastor Jetto had introduced these icons into the church the previous year. To enlarge either picture, just click it.
